Dance Aotearoa New Zealand (DANZ) presents Taking Dance To The People.
These dancers were selected by DANZ to be part of a new and extended programme that supports Māori and Pacific dance artists to give them the opportunity to perform in key public spaces.
Expect to see diverse dance works, such as hip-hop, contemporary dance and Pacific dance. Each dancer brings something different and tells their own stories as people of the Moana.
Indigo Sagala – Alofa ia te oe
Alofa ia te oe is based around one of the few important times in Indigo’s life that has shaped her into the person she is today. This piece is about her relationship growing up with her late Grandpa and the loss of him which became hard to overcome. During this process, Indigo was able to grieve and overcome this feeling of pain through alofa and relationships with family and friends.
Chas Samoa, Natalia Ioane & Semira Mariner – Folauga
'Represents the past, the present and the future. It embraces the changes that occur along the way and moves into the direction of the current. We are a sense of a flotilla moving together.'
