Peter Blake
Artwork Detail
Peter Blake's respect for fairground art, barge painting, tattooing, commercial art, and other forms of image-making rooted in folkloric traditions led him to produce some of the first works to which the term Pop art was later applied. The small format of Pretty Boy Michelangelo is like a postcard of a local hero that can be leant on a mantlepiece. (Andy and Friends, 1999)
