Robert Rauschenberg
Artwork Detail
The ‘Horsefeathers’ series, which take images from magazines such as Time, Life, Newsweek and Sports Illustrated, are comprised of collage and embossing. Their seemingly unstructured distribution is consistent with the random involvement that the artist was after, yet the arrangements are unified by flicks, wipes and sprayed patches of colour applied either to the lithographic stone, or to the paper directly, through a stencil (pochoir), or by screenprinting.
