M T Woollaston
Artwork Detail
The sitter in this painting is not identified, but it could well be the artist’s youngest son, Philip, who would have been aged about 9 when it was painted. Asked about the work today, Philip Woollaston reflects that his father, ‘did paint any of us he could catch (usually from candid drawings while we weren’t looking).’ (Intimate Portraits, 2005)
