Ossip Zadkine
Artwork Detail
Like most of his contemporaries, Zadkine worked first in the rigorous discipline of Cubism. Elements of the style can still be seen in this work, although there are also surrealistic overtones which are a key to the artist's poetic and lyrical nature. This work has been described as a sculpture of movement, demanding an organic treatment of light and a free inter-penetration of form and plane, working in much the same way as the sonorously moving forms of music.
