M T Woollaston
Artwork Detail
Toss Woollaston lived much of his life in Mapua, near Nelson. His long exploration of the subtle beauties, soft colours and sharp accents of this landscape has resulted in many memorable paintings. Much of his work is based on the fact that he made numerous drawings. His work has a sketch-like quality with sweeping marks unconcealed; the very opposite of the cool precise realism that has also flourished in New Zealand. (New Zealand Modern, 2003)
