Marcel Duchamp
Artwork Detail
Marcel Duchamp was a seminal figure in 20th century art, exemplifying the range of possibilities inherent in a more conceptual approach to the art-making process. His insistence on the ready-made as an object of art was revolutionary and challenging for the viewers of his day. He joined the Cubist group in 1910, and was associated with the Dada and Surrealist movements. Duchamp painted The coffee mill, from which this etching was made, in 1911.
