Andrea Locatelli
Artwork Detail
Locatelli was primarily a painter of easel pictures, which were eagerly sought after. In 1783 the aristocratic Colonna family, who owned extensive estates in Rome and Naples, owned eighty of his pictures. His early paintings included scenes of ancient ruins in the landscape, although later versions mainly comprised idyllic views of the Roman Campagna, influenced by Gaspard Dughet.
