Artwork Detail
‘These pics are of Cody and Joel Wilson-Heti, two brothers from Mangere who have volunteered to be part of the project… This is my sister’s garage. What you see in terms of the space has been art directed and staged to reflect the urban spaces occupied predominantly by Pacific island males. The art direction has been informed by my own personal experiences as a younger Sāmoan male, growing up in a similar, familial space.
This photographic expression of contemporary Pacific masculinity… looks at themes of identity, masculinity, gender and sexuality. The work also addresses notions of cultural, communal and familial spaces.’
