Wenceslaus Hollar (Artist), Jan Peeters (After)
Artwork Detail
Along with his views of Op de Maese and Dordrecht, this print is a copy of a painting. Known as ‘reproductive prints’, these catered to public interest in pictures by well-known artists. As a subject, landscape found its most significant early advocates among Dutch and Flemish artists. The flat landscape of the Low Countries meant that the sky and miscellaneous details were emphasised in the place of dramatic scenery.
