Julia Morison
Artwork Detail
The artist’s gloved hands appear in these photographs as she actively constructs and adjusts the props. The Surrealis-tstyle cutting-and-pasting within each panel creates startling combinations and deliberately mysterious connections between materials, signs and symbols. These 10 lightboxes illuminate the 10 states of Sephirot from Kabbalah doctrine – the 10 powers which are the source of all cosmic energy. ‘Quiddity’ refers
to the essential nature of a thing. By making the word plural, Morison suggests that many qualities exist, rather than one essential type.
