John Kinder
Artwork Detail
In 1859, Kinder married Marianne Celia Brown. They were to have no children of their own; but after the tragic murder of John’s younger brother, Henry, in 1865, they adopted his two children, Frances Nestor (Nessie) and Harry. This photograph was taken in the grounds of St John’s College. The wooden building on the left is the dining hall and to the right is the Dean’s House. (Chic Colonials: Ataahua, 2003)
