Patrick Lundberg
Artwork Detail
These works belong to Lundberg’s ongoing series exploring minimal abstraction in wall works which he calls ‘sets’. They explore the ideas of absence and emptiness through pushing the white gallery wall to the forefront of the viewer’s attention. In his earliest painting interventions Lundberg excised sections of plaster board wall with layers of found marks and paint, initiating a quiet practice of micro-observations. In numerous works since, he has concentrated on making minute painted marks, patterns and colour stories on small surfaces, like shoelaces and pins, which build an overall surface across the wall when displayed in sets. There is a delicacy and attention to detail in these works which encourages close viewing and wonder from the onlooker, who moves in close to consider what is in front of them.
