Judy Darragh
Artwork Detail
Judy Darragh has explored cultural value and taste through her art practice for more than two decades. She creates flamboyant, exuberantly coloured and textured adaptations of popular culture and its artefacts. Most recently, Darragh has ventured into the realm of science fiction, and has found there a rich array of creative associations.
In Limbo, 2015, Darragh constructs ‘kitchen science fiction’. The metal foil used in the fabrication of the day-glow meteorite objects hovering above our heads evokes a traditionally feminine sphere, and the early days of space discovery, chiefly the preserve of male explorers.
The title Limbo relates not only to the suspended state of these objects, but also to the way meaning changes depending on the position from which something is viewed.
