Dr Susan Cochrane is an Australian/ French researcher, curator and author whose main research interest is contemporary Pacific art. She was head of Contemporary Pacific Art at Tjibaou Cultural Centre, New Caledonia (1995-1998) and was a consultant to the Asia Pacific Triennial (1996 and 1999). Her publications include Contemporary Art from Papua New Guinea (1997); Bérétara: New Pacific Art (2001) and Art and Life in Melanesia (2001).
The archive consists of documents, manuscripts, academic papers, photographic prints, diaries, field notebooks and audio visual records. Included are interviews with artists and copies of early audio field recordings in Papua New Guinea in the 1950s and 60s, made by her father Percy Cochrane.
