John Perry (1943-2021), artist and ex Rotorua Museum Director) collected these 'how to' art books, which date from the early to mid twentieth century. Many of the manuals are from large series of 'teach yourself' books and cover such topics as drawing, painting and watercolour. Some are general guides, while others are on particular subjects, for example, how to paint fruit or draw the human body.
