Archive Collection Detail
Betty Curnow (1911-2005) was a personal friend of the artist Rita Angus (1908-1970). This archive primarily consists of hundreds of pages of hand-written notes by Curnow tracing her relationship with Angus and her understanding of Angus' life and work. Curnow, working from her diary, records on a sometimes daily basis, events she attended, people she met and observations on her life during the time she knew Angus, 1936 to 1970. The archive includes detailed notes on the well-known painting in the Auckland Art Gallery's collection, Portrait of Betty Curnow, 1942.
