Dr Walter Auburn (1906-1979) was a noted collector of old master prints. He held the position of Honorary Curator of Prints and Drawings at the Auckland City Art Gallery for many years. The Gallery was donated a large number of works from his and his wife, Lore Auburn's collection in 1981. The papers include correspondence between Auburn and various dealers in London, New York, Australia and New Zealand from whom he made his purchases of artworks, books and antiques. It also includes correspondence relating to the acquisition of the Auburn Collection by Auckland Art Gallery and a partial memoir and transcriptions of speeches Dr Walter Auburn delivered.
