Archive Collection Detail

Corflute sign for artist-run gallery and production space Snake Pit.

Snake Pit was founded in August 2011 by recent Elam Art School graduates James Wylie and Sam Thomas, alongside Thomas' sister, Rose Thomas. The gallery was founded when the landlord of 33 High Street offered the recent graduates operation of the space prior to the building demolition in November 2012.

Operating over three levels, Snake Pit was a exhibition and production space, studio space, music venue and clothing store with a focus on emerging creatives. During its operation the gallery held 22 exhibitions, showcasing the work of over 250 artists.

Corflute sign includes black and white text on white Corflute. Text states: 'Snake Pit Art Gallery / Exhibition / Various Artists / Mixed Media / Enter Peoples Choice / Upstairs'
